WHERE WE SERVE
COURTS
Filing in a court outside this list? We can still serve a defendant who lives or works here. Service follows the person, not the court.
LOCAL DETAILS
The 16th Judicial Circuit Court and Probate Court are in downtown Mount Clemens, so most divorce, larger civil, and probate matters in the county land there.
Macomb and Shelby townships keep adding new streets. If an address is very new, a lot number, builder name, or cross street helps us find it on the first try.
Around Romeo, Armada, and Richmond, homes sit far back from the road. Tell us about dogs, gates, or a better door to use if you know.

FAQ
General information about Michigan court rules, not legal advice. Your attorney or the court clerk can answer questions about your specific case.
The same rule applies statewide. Under MCR 2.103(A), any legally competent adult who isn’t a party to the case, or an officer of a corporate party, can serve process. You can’t serve your own papers.
The court rules don’t set a number. Before we start, we agree with you on how many attempts to make and when.
A signed proof of service stating how, when, and where the papers were delivered and to whom. MCR 2.104(A) accepts a verified statement from the person who made service, so it’s ready to file with the court.
Not for a regular civil summons. MCR 2.105(A) calls for personal delivery to the defendant or restricted-delivery mail. Leaving papers with someone else needs a court order for alternate service. Eviction cases are different: MCR 4.201(D) allows delivery to a household member of suitable age.
Yes. Service follows the person, not the court. Papers from a court anywhere in Michigan can be served on someone who lives or works in Macomb County.
