PROCESS SERVER · MICHIGAN
Oakland County mixes corporate office parks in Troy and Southfield with lake communities and rural townships in the north. Serving papers here can mean a reception desk on Big Beaver Road one hour and a gravel driveway in Independence Township the next.

WHERE WE SERVE
COURTS
Filing in a court outside this list? We can still serve a defendant who lives or works here. Service follows the person, not the court.
LOCAL DETAILS
The 6th Circuit Court and the Probate Court share the county campus at 1200 N. Telegraph Rd. in Pontiac, even for cases involving people who live in Novi or Rochester Hills.
Oakland County has a lot of corporate offices. A receptionist usually isn’t the right person to serve. The rules call for an officer or resident agent, or the person in charge of an office combined with registered mail.
In the lake and township areas, include gate codes, lake access roads, or a description of the home if you have them. Rural route addresses can be hard to find after dark.
WHAT WE SERVE
Most assignments are one of these. Have something else? Send the details and we’ll let you know.
Personal delivery to individuals, and service on businesses through an officer or registered agent.
Witness and records subpoenas. Tell us the appearance or production date and whether a witness fee is enclosed.
Divorce complaints, custody and support filings, and motions, handled with discretion.
Summons and complaints in summary proceedings for landlords, property managers, and their attorneys.
Small claims affidavits and summonses when you’d rather not rely on certified mail.
Use the online form or email the documents with the name, address, and your deadline.
We review the address and timing, then confirm pricing and instructions before starting.
Attempts follow the plan and instructions agreed for your assignment.
You receive a signed proof of service stating when, where, how, and on whom the papers were served.
FAQ
General information about Michigan court rules, not legal advice. Your attorney or the court clerk can answer questions about your specific case.
Almost anyone. MCR 2.103(A) allows any legally competent adult who is not a party, or an officer of a corporate party, to serve process. Using a process server keeps a neutral person between the parties and gives you a professional proof of service.
Under MCR 2.105(D), a corporation is served through an officer or its resident agent, or by serving a director, trustee, or the person in charge of an office and also sending the papers by registered mail. LLCs follow MCR 2.105(H), which works much the same way through a managing member, manager, or resident agent.
MCR 2.105(A)(2) allows registered or certified mail, return receipt requested, with delivery restricted to the addressee. Service isn’t complete until the person signs, and many people simply don’t. Personal delivery avoids that problem.
A summons expires 91 days after it’s issued under MCR 2.102(D). The court can order a second summons within that window if you show due diligence, but it’s far easier to get service done early.
Michigan’s rules don’t set a fixed number of attempts for personal service. We agree on the number and timing of attempts with you when we accept the assignment.
